Heart failure is a growing epidemic in North America,and its incidence and cost burden are increasing as the population ages. Few therapies have been shown to be clearly effective in preventing or delaying the onset of heart failure, and prognosis remains poor for this dis-order. Novel genomics techniques and technologies are beginning to yield new insights into the molecular
mechanisms driving progression and outcome in heart failure. In particular, gene expression profiling research is leading to better understanding of this complex con-dition and may improve the outlook for patients with heart failure in the future.
